FAQ
Why is this different from the IP shown on my computer?
That's expected. The address in your system settings is usually a private one (starting with 192.168), assigned by your router for the local network. This tool shows the public exit IP that servers see when you reach the internet — typically the address your ISP assigns to your broadband or cell tower, often shared by many devices in one building or office.
Why is the location off by tens of kilometers?
IP location is inferred from registration data for IP ranges in a database; city level is about as precise as it gets, and pinning a street is unreliable. Carriers often register a whole city or province under one node, and proxies, VPNs, and mobile networks widen the gap further. It answers "roughly which city and ISP I'm exiting through," not exact positioning.
How do I confirm my proxy or VPN is working?
Refresh this page once before and once after enabling the proxy or VPN. If the IP and location change to the proxy server's region, traffic is really going through it; if it's still your local ISP's IP, the proxy may not be handling this browser's requests. It's the most direct check.
Does the lookup record or upload my information?
This site doesn't store your IP; the result only appears in your own browser. To find your exit IP, the browser must call an external public service — which naturally sees your IP (that's how the lookup works) — but the request carries no name, account, or other personal data. That's the only networked step.
